                           RATE THEM

This page is being developed for one purpose only; that citizens may see the competence or lack thereof of their attorneys, judges, public officials and candidates for office - as rated by the citizens; and may therefore make informed decisions.  Polls that rate judges by attorneys or other judges have no value to us; except for federal judges, all other judges in Nevada are merely elected attorneys.  It has been said, "There is no greater myth than that the office sanctifies the holder of it".  Being elected as a judge does not cause the attorney to suddenly wear a halo (nor any officeholder for that matter).  Unfortunately too, power tends to work towards power (often referred to to as the good ole boys network, also known as corruption).

Many feel that the State Bar and the Judicial Council serve the purpose only of protecting their members, at the expense of the citizens.  Many have had their valid complaints dismissed.  Citizens cannot find out the actual histories of judges and attorneys.  Furthermore, these entities operate in darkness.  We are not allowed to be involved with the investigation of them based on our complaints to any extent.  Many of us have documented actual criminal acts against attorneys, to find those criminal acts defended by the State Bar and the Judicial Council, or dismissed as without substance.  Or worse yet, ignored entirely.

Also of crucial importance is the immunity judges have granted themselves (not full immunity, but enough to destroy our live with impunity).  Judges can still be made to answer to charges of violating our civil and constitutional rights, committing criminal acts or ruling outside their jurisdiction.  BUT when we attempt to hold them accountable, where do we end up?  In another courtroom, before another judge, with THEIR defense attorneys.  In other words, keeping us on their turf can often insure that we cannot win, regardless of the validity of our cases.  Yes, there are some very honorable judges.  But how do you know going in which ones are?

To put candidates into office based merely on their own assessments of themselves or the assessments of their friends serves NO purpose.  We all seem to be jaded regarding campaign promises.  How easily forgotten they are...  How can we actually know that the attorneys we hire are competent and knowledgeable?  The State Bar will not tell us; only if they are a member in good standing.  But what does that mean?  If we cannot document fair investigation and, when needed, actual discipline against our attorneys who harm us, what do we ever really know about them?  Nonprofits are allowed, per Supreme Court, to pay for independent advertisements that urge voters to support or oppose particular candidates, but such ads cannot be coordinated with the candidates with the candidates they have endorsed.

Being in possession of a Juris Doctor degree does not imbue the holder with god-like omnicience.  On the contrary, many feel that attorneys' ability to argue both sides of any cases indicates a confused mental state for those not emotionally mature.  If an individual must, as a matter of employment, put aside his/her own personal beliefs or ethical standards, do the ethical standards then exist at all?  It takes a competent human being to stand for what is true.

The Judicial Councils do not seem interested in protecting our rights in court settings, but rather in protecting their members (the fox guarding the hen house); although they will tell us they are.  We have collected numerous Cases of Judicial Misconduct; some would say those cases proves the authorities will step in on our behalf.  However, we feel these cases are only the tip of the iceberg...  We have collected numerous articles about judicial immunity and judicial misconduct which do not reflect fair adjudication of the nature of crimes committed against us (See Newspaper/Magazines).  Most often, judges who actually hold other judges accountable, only give them a mere slap on the hand for crimes that would put us in prison for years.  And we have and continue to collect statistics that show most complaints are dismissed on their face.

There seems to be two classes of society in the U.S.; authorities who can often evade real responsibility for their actions... and the rest of us.  The old 60's saying, "Question Authority" does apply.  Are they doing what they were hired to do?  Or has megalomania set in?  "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".  Did We the People give them absolute power?  Or did they take it?  Do public servants serve us or do we serve them?

What we need is actual biographical data and specifics; also, where possible,  court transcripts or other documents which demonstrate attorneys' and judges' behaviors towards us.  Letters by attorneys to us may be posted here if they have general application.  Tell us your experiences with attorneys, and back it up!  All abuses must be documented.

With this collected information, citizens can write informed legislation and petition for its institution.  With this collected information, we can see media attention.  With this collected information, we can know what we need to know.

On the flip side, those attorneys and judges who are constitutionally-competent, responsive, professional, intelligent and courteous can also be noted here.  From such data, we can then make informed choices.  While Redress, Inc. cannot make endorsements of candidates, as an educational resource, we can collect information and post it for review.

In cases where the authorities' failure to act is our problem, this collected information will assist us in forming class-action lawsuits.  Of course, then again, we will be back in court, on their turf, once again.  But we are not anarchists, so we must work within established guidelines and work for the enforcement of those guidelines.
