JUDGES
1.
Electing Judges vs. Appoint Judges
Redress, Inc. is more concerned about what judges
do when they achieve the position than how they get there; we are
collecting data that demonstrates that citizens are not willing to
surrender their rights to vote candidates into
office.
- We would be concerned that if lawyers become
judges by appointment only, that it would nullify our right
to recall elected officials.
- We are also concerned regarding the complaint
process for judges, whether appointed or
elected.
- We understand that attorneys seeking election
judgeships solicit campaign contributions from other attorneys;
that by law, they can still show no favoritism to those
attorneys. We believe those legal mandates are generally
disregarded by elected judges.
- We believe that bias against pro se litigants is
already rampant in the judicial system and are working to
document it.
- We recognize that judges complain about the high
cost of getting elected, but feel that issue can be better
addressed by limiting campaign spending.
- These
issues must be addressed.
