HOLYOKE POLICE CHIEF WANTS TO MAKE MASSACHUSETTS JUDGES ACCOUNTABLE By Ed Oliver, 10-17-2002 Holyoke Police Chief Anthony R. Scott will hold a press conference at Holyoke City Hall on Tuesday, October 29, to unveil his statewide initiative to make Massachusetts Judges accountable to the people. He called on citizens to come to the 6:30 p.m. conference in a strong showing of unity. "I am announcing a statewide effort to make judges accountable to the citizens of the Commonwealth," said Chief Scott in a letter to supporters. "Article V of the Massachusetts Constitution states, 'All power residing originally in the people, and being derived from them, the several magistrates and officers of government, vested with authority, whether legislative, executive or JUDICIAL, are at all times accountable to them'. Therefore, please help me in this effort to make judges accountable to the people they serve." Chief Scott wrote that judges are "negatively impacting the Commonwealth, communities, neighborhoods and families; and in some cases, precipitating injury and even death." Scott called on citizens to bring friends and family to the press conference in a strong show of solidarity. "Remember in unity there is strength and one person can make a difference! I need your help and assistance to demonstrate to the citizens of the Commonwealth, through the media, that citizens and communities are concerned about how judges are negatively impacting their daily lives.
